Why do Bunny Rabbits and Teddy Bears Go So Well Together?

Teddy bears have always been a popular toy for generations, dating back to the early 20th century. Ever since Teddy Roosevelt gave rise to our love of these soft toys, teddy bears have been portrayed in so many different ways - especially in literature, film and television.

Some may argue that toy bunny rabbits are just as popular as teddy bears - and it’s no surprise why. From Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, to Beatrix Potter, and even Watership Down, bunny rabbits have always played an important role in children’s literature and popular culture. So many people grew up with these iconic stories, that bunny rabbits hold a very special place in people’s hearts - just as much as teddy bears.

But why do bunny rabbits and teddy bears go so well together? We like to think the magic of bears and bunnies started with the publication of the legendary Winne-The-Pooh stories by A A Milne in 1926. It was the second book The House at Pooh Corner which introduced Pooh Bear’s friends: Eeyore, Piglet, Owl, Kanga, Roo, Tigger and of course, Rabbit. Rabbit is the character in Winnie-the Pooh who likes to live an ordered life. Rabbit always means well and has a good heart but sometimes struggles with unexpected events. He enjoys calmer activities such as gardening and tea time.

The incredible Winnie-The-Pooh bear was licensed to Disney in the 60s and has appeared in countless Disney films and TV shows ever since, delighting children for nearly 100 years.

Why do we love rabbits and bears so much?

There is one thing that both of these adorable animals have in common, and that is their soft cuddly fur and cute tails and ears. Not to mention that as soft toys they offer unconditional love, security and companionship. There truly is nothing better than having an adorable soft toy as your best friend when growing up, which is why so many adults resonate with these toys, as they have fond memories of their own stuffed animals they adored when young. A toy bunny rabbit or teddy bear don’t need to do anything clever, they don’t need to have flashing lights or lots of interesting buttons, they are simply there to love and cuddle unconditionally.

The Grin & Bear handmade bunny rabbit teddy bears

Our entire business was founded on our love for these traditional and timeless toys, when Michael Dankwah started designing homemade teddy bears to provide both adults and children with a special companion to love for years to come. He then chose to design the bunny rabbits as the ideal teddy companion. We understand more than anyone that everyone from the very young to the very old loves a teddy bear, so each bunny rabbit teddy is crafted with the same care and dedication, using traditional methods to create both bespoke designs and a more

curated range. Michael spends a long time designing his bears and during the creative process their personalities slowly come to life, so you can easily choose the best bear for you or your loved one.

Our personalised bunny teddies

At Grin & Bear, we also have our very own bunny teddy collection, where we have captured the sheer joy of these loving animals in a wonderfully classic design. These bunnies are a great choice for children, as they have moving joints and the head, arms and legs can all rotate 360 degrees. Children can truly bring these animals to life, using them to play make-believe games and position their rabbit friend in any way they want. Across our website, there are five bunny rabbit designs including two in a gorgeous Liberty print – Louisa and Christopher - so it is completely up to you which one you choose. Each of these bunnies can even be personalised if you wish, so make sure you contact Michael directly and he will happily discuss your options with you.
