Union Jack Teddy Bear Supports Team GB

The Tokyo Olympics are finally underway, which is super exciting to see after the unfortunate delay from last year. Although the official opening ceremony is on 23rd July, some events are already happening, not least the appearance of an Asian black bear at the Olympic softball stadium – still not found as we write! As a British bear company, we are incredibly proud to be supporting Team GB with our gorgeous Union Jack teddy bear, and we thought our customers would love to do the same. But do you know much about the Olympics?

History of the Olympics

The Olympics began back in ancient Greece and were part of a religious festival in honour of Zeus, the father of the Greek gods and goddesses. From the 8th century B.C. to the 4th century A.D, the games took place every four years in Olympia, a rural sanctuary site. However, the first modern Olympics were held in Athens, Greece, in 1896, some 1503 years after the previous Olympic event. The modern Olympic torch relay was first introduced at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, a popular and iconic event which still continues to this day.

We are sure that Tokyo 2020 is going to be one of the most unique Olympic Games in history, with 376 athletes and a further 22 reserve athletes representing Team GB set to compete across 26 sports at the games. As a nation, we are also making history as for the very first time at a summer Olympic Games, Team GB will have more female than male athletes in its 125-year history, with our athletes broadly represented across 26 disciplines. This year, there are also 51 returning medallists from Rio 2016, where the British team finished second in the medals table behind only the USA.

About our Union Jack Teddy Bear

Jack is a new member of the Grin & Bear family and would be the perfect addition to any teddy bear collector who wants to share some of the Team GB spirit. His design, as you can see, is inspired by the British Union Jack flag and is part of our Icon City range of teddy bears. With his cheeky chappy personality and a bright, shiny smile, Jack is a fun British teddy bear companion who evokes complete joy with his dry sense of humour and adorable wittiness. Despite his comical personality, he is still the first to apologise even when he is not at fault and happy to discuss the weather at any opportunity - traits all of us Brits know too well.

If you want to buy a very British teddy bear and add Jack to your collection, you will be pleased to know that to celebrate the start of the Olympics, Jack is 15% off from 23/07 - 08/08, so you can buy him at a discounted price until the very end of the Olympics. Jack is very proud of his heritage and will certainly be cheering on all of our incredible athletes representing the country this summer.
